The secret seven

Old joke in a TTRPG I used to play. There was a clandestine organization known as The Secret Seven. The secret was that there was forty-two of them!

The global warming science is turning out to be the opposite.

FOLLOW THE SCIENCE: Global Warming? Where? “The Abstract bluntly declares that ‘standard climate models are rejected by time series data on global temperatures’ while the conclusions state ‘the results imply that the effect of man-made CO2 emissions does not appear to be sufficiently strong to cause systematic changes in the pattern of the temperature fluctuations.’”

Round one over

As projected HTHS was eliminated last week, albeit by more than I projected. Rangers went 9-0 for the first time in school history then proceeded to drop the last two by a combined 49 points. Roughriders won handily and played it close to the vest with 400 yards of offense pretty evenly distributed between ground and air. Doubt they showed the next foe anything fancy. Nelsonville York. Only played three teams with winning records and lost to all of them. Played them at Lancaster on the way to a state title back in the early 80’s. They’ll hit hard but we should be able to run around them. Lots of shotgun and a quick, short passing game. Fort Frye likely next. Not a bad team but not nearly as good as the ’21 team we beat. That means Garaway for the region title. They are GOOD. Five games against teams with winning records and they won them all. Some over significantly bigger schools. More when it happens.

Polar Bears lost Homecoming to what used to be the worst college football team in Ohio. Buckeyes were solid. tsun is wobbly. Still a barely competent schedule. So let’s do this: tOSU is #1. tsun is ineligible. Alabam has a loss. Georgia’s schedule to date is too weak. Texas, Oregon and PSU all have a loss. We’ll put FSU in #2. Undefeated Washington gets #3 by default. And somebody from that mess above is #4.

Saints are still middle of the road. 50/50 for the playoffs. Bills & Chiefs still best in the AFC with Ravens and Bengals right behind. Eagles and Niners best of the NFC with the Cowboys barkin’.

Happy Halloween

This author is about 5-10 years younger than I but they still bring it home.

And so we have our final three. But first, a few diversions

Cobweb. Better than I expected so long as you leave “what happened” up to your imagination.

Fall of the House of Usher. LOTS of Easter eggs. Too much preaching (and my leftists friends agree with me!) but worth the effort. Nice to see Carla Gugino continuing to build her resume.

29th: Ghost and Mr. Chicken. Plot holes abound but STILL a lot of fun.

30th: Halloween. The original. Because.

31st: After we close the door to the last little spook we’ll curl up with a nice beverage and watch “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.” And maybe cry a little. Because tomorrow is November and the rush to the end of the year is upon us.

final week before Halloween

We’re down to the good stuff now! We start with Bride of Frankenstein (1935,) the best of the series IMHO. Then chilled to Psycho (1960). Current generation just doesn’t “get” this movie, and it ODES raise some questions in our current trans culture! Suspiria (1977, not the remake!) Although the new one isn’t bad it just doesn’t bring the Giallo like this one. And that SCORE! James Wan’s best The Conjuring (2013) is the newest movie of the month. The Innocents (1961) made our list again this year after being on the unseen list a year ago. A strong telling of James’ The Turn of the Screw. Time for some lighter fare. Young Frankenstein (1974.) Genius. Then off the beaten path for Season 4 Episode 2 of the X-Files. “Home.” You can’t keep a Peacock down!

Three days to Halloween. Three solid standards to get us there!

We haven’t talked COVID for a while!

The Covid Cover-up. James Meigs provides excellent summary of the lies and corruption of the public-health and scientific establishments.

Vax Study. “The FDA still lists the studies they required as ‘ongoing,’ but when asked the FDA admits that they have the results in hand. They just won’t let anybody see them.”

Rough week last week

HTHS and WJHS BOTH lost their finales. Cost HTHS the outright title and about 4 spots in tournament seeding. They’ll play Miami Trace (home of Art Schlichter) and I’m thinking the Panthers win by 5 -7 tops. WJ held on to the #2 slot and will play GC Christian. It’ll be as close as WJ wants to keep it. They should get Nelsonvill York next. Saw them play one of the best HS football games EVER back in the 70’s at Lancaster. If seeding holds it’ll be Fort Frye next. We bested them in the fourth round back in ’21. It’ll be a fight.

ONU managed to beat the Muskies last week and face the Pioneers for homecoming this week. Two in a row? Big school top four: tsun (facing a cheating scandal, a so-far easy schedule and an off week,) tOSU. Bama and PSU have a loss. Georgia has a week schedule. Oklahoma is a solid #3. Texas and LSU are both fighting that loss which brings up FSU in the #4 slot. Buckeyes over Bucky 28-14 this week.

Saints keep doing Saint-like things. Expect a moderately high scoring squeaker against the Indy (formerly Baltimore) Minshews. Still going Chiefs, Bills, Eagles, Niners but there are a bunch of teams yappin at the heels.

Third week!

We’ve said goodby to the “new” stuff and dip into the classics.

The Wolfman (1941). Frankenstein (1934). Dracula (1931). The Old, Dark House (1932). Since we’d already seen the “new” one, The Haunting (1963). Lingering we have The Sixth Sense (1999). Still solid, even with ALL of the rewatchings. And finally the original Ghostbusters (1984). Sheer Libertarian fun.

And just for fun this week the ADORABLE Practical Magic (1998).

Notice the dearth of ANYTHING from the last 25 years or so! Because MOT of it is drek. Change my mind.

Week 10 of HS football

WJHS won by 2 TD’s – closer than most would’ve liked. And HTHS pulled off the upset over BC to go to 9-0. The school has NEVER gone 10-0 and it’s likely to happen this week. They’re in the playoffs but still need a win or some help to host a home game. Regardless they’re likely to host a losing team in the first round. Roughriders will be first or second seed. They should have no trouble with thier first game.

College top 4? tsun, tOSU, Oklahoma and PSU. Washington and Florida State are sniffing around. Buckeyes over the N Lions by a score. And take the under.

In the NFL I’ll stick with my same four, even after Cleveburg slapped the Niners. Saints still mired in the middle and I’m afraid they’ll lose another squeaker, this time to the Jags.

Enjoy the weather!

I’m ignoring the elephant

because it’s easier. I admit it. But there will be time.

Instead, let’s focus on things here at home. And apologies for the length but there’s been a LOT!

Watch Biden say he’s trying to help “black people, Hispanics, and veterans – you know, the workers without high school diplomas” But no mean tweets.
