Texans +2+. Win

Dolphins +4+ and the over 44+. Lost ’em both. -1.2

Bills straight up and the over 33+. Won them both. .8*

Dallas -7 and over 50. Split. .7

Lions straight up -164 AND ATS -3. Another split. .6*

Bucs straight up +135 AND +3 and the over 43.5 Won the first two*. Narrow miss on the over. 2.5 to the good!

Divisional round? REALLY rooting for the Texans but can’t bet that way. Cheering for all the rest of the favorites. But here’s how I’d bet:

Ravens -9+. Pass on the money line and O/U.

Packers +9+, Niners laying too much on the money line but I really like the under 50+.

Just wanna watch the Lions/Bucs game. Wonder if the Bucs are acclimated yet? But I’d take the under 48+.

KC getting points? Mahomes on the road in the (cold) playoffs. Take the Bills and lay the 2+. Pass on the money line. And take the under 45. I might even be tempted to tease it down to 40!

*Yes I realize I haven’t done the exact math but it’s close enough for the purpose of this blog.

Browns @ Texans . I’ll take the Texans +2+.

Dolphins @ Chiefs. I’ll take Dolphins +4+ and the over 44+.

Steelers @ Bills. I’ll pass on the Steelers getting 9, and the high odds on the Bills straight up and the over 33+.

Packers @ Cowboys. Dallas -7 and over 50.

No Autumn running post

because there was no autumn running. October was windy and kinda wet so my mileage was spotty. Then in November I was supposed to begin directing a show. That failed effort took the first two weeks of THAT month. And by the time that was over it was mid-November. I’d lost whatever edge I’d had. So I gave up and enjoyed food season (from Halloween through Thanksgiving, Christmas, NYE/NYD, bowls, and playoffs, culminating in the Super Bowl and Valentines Day. 

But here in ’24 I’ve cranked it up again. Weight maxxed out at 225. Heart rate up to 55. But I’m hitting the weights again. Mark Rippetow’s Starting Strength is the new template. Really did NOT like last year’s plan. Forty to fifty reps per exercise was just too many. Doesn’t fit my temperament. Targeting a daily regimen based on that math thing I started using last year. Right now it’s just walking in the neighborhood when weather permits or on the treadmill when it doesn’t, but it’s something. And when the weight goes under 220 (next week some time perhaps?) I’ll start running again. That should accelerate weight loss for a few weeks and get me down under 215 maybe by the end of the month. So by spring I’ll be ready to extend and push and stuff. 

Growing old is NOT for sissies.

The end of college football

Ok. Not REALLY. We ALL know the REAL end of college football was the sloppy thoughtless implementation of the transfer portal and NIL $$$.

Conferences. ACC went 5-6. Shoulda been worse. Big 1(?) went 4-3. Likely be 5-3. MAC goes 2-4 and STILL won’t go back to AA. PAC 12-8 is .500 and hoping for the Huskies to save the day. SEC finishes 4-3. And they’re done. NOT PLAYING IN THE TITLE GAME. Just sayin’. MY top four? tsun, Oregon, TOSU and Georgia. Tell me THOSE four at full strength wouldn’t have been an awesome night?!

Title game? I’ll take the Jackrabbits -12 1/2 over the Grizzlies. Over 41 1/2. Line IS 12 1/2 O/U is 49 1/2 so I’m squishy on that.

In the OTHER title game? tsun -6, under 48. Vegas line is -3 1/2 and under 54 1/2 so wager accordingly.

Over in the bigs ….. my Saints are still alive. Sorry Bengals fans. They’re a TD better than the Falcons. Sadly unless Mayfield takes the day off I don’t see Carolina beating the Bucs. We then look at Bears/Packers and Seahawks/Cardinals. We need a Bears win or tie. They’re at least a FG worse so we need some magic. Also need the Cardinals to beat or tie the Seahawks. Actually have a better shot at THIS one.

Going with Ravens v Bills in the AFC. Niners in the NFC. Cowboys DQ’d for not reporting properly.

better late than never?

Had some access issues so ended up watching the 1912 silent “A Christmas Accident.” Cannot recommend aside from seasonal interest.

Managed to get the family to turn OFF the Jim Carey Grinch and settle instead for the Chuck Jones classic. C’mon people. Newer isn’t always better.

Watched Home Alone shortly after Thanksgiving as is the GS’s want. So I finished up this five with three “classics.” The Bishop’s Wife (1947 version – see Grinch note above,) Black Christmas (1974 – see Grinch note above,) and Love Actually (which is actually kinda a horrible movie and tough to watch in many ways. Might lose it next year.

Ralphie runs 24 hours in these parts so doesn’t get re-watched but rather re-shared. And I’m having a bit of a self-arguement over It’s a Wonderful Life.
